Keep it Simple, Stick to the Basics, and Be Consistent!

JJ Birden from NFL professional football player to network marketing,  keynote motivational speaker and now a best-selling author

Please introduce yourself and the company Isagenix to our readers!

My name is JJ Birden. I’m a former NFL professional football player. I played nine years in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Atlanta Falcons. The bulk of my career I was with the Kansas City Chiefs, where I played two year with Hall of Fame Quarterback Joe Montana.

Once my NFL career was over, and after running several businesses, I started working in the Network Marketing profession. I have been in the profession for 13 years now. In the last seven years, I’ve been working with the company Isagenix.

Along with Network Marketing, I am a keynote motivational speaker and now a best-selling author with my first book, When Opportunity Knocks 8 Surefire Ways to Take Advantage.

Currently, I live in Scottsdale, Arizona with my lovely wife Raina. We’ve been married for thirty years. We have eight children (three biological and five adopted nieces and nephews) and one grandson.

Isagenix International is a privately held network marketing company that sells health and wellness products. The company is based in Gilbert, Arizona, was founded in 2002 by John Anderson, Jim Coover, and Kathy Coover. Their mission is to inspire & empower individuals, families & communities to live their best lives through nutrition, health, prosperity & wellness.

Why did you decide to start with Isagenix?

JJ Birden: The first company I was with had an excellent product. However, I saw deficiencies within it that had me concerned for their future. I then began researching fifty different network marketing companies to find the right one that met my criteria. I wanted to partner with a health and wellness company between 10 and 15 years old and showed a genuine commitment to having a long term vision with a long term commitment. After trying the Isagenix products, meeting the owners Jim and Kathy Coover, learning more about their compensation plan, tools, and international expansion plans, I knew Isagenix was with the right company.

What is the vision behind Isagenix?

Isagenix messaging revolves around the phrase The Art of Well Being. It’s the goal of helping ones feel better, move better, and live better.

They continue to offer weight wellness and nutritional products but have also moved to a more holistic approach that supports physical and emotional wellbeing.

Meaning of Isagenix – Isagenix, si the original evidence and nature base Wellness Company specializing in life long health solutions, originating from ancient beliefs of a balanced life.

Why we do what we do? – Isagenix, we provide elevated wellness solutions because we believe everybody deserves to feel healthy. This is the Art of Well Being!

How we do that? – Everything we do affects our health, family, and planet, so let’s do better and make it so simple everyone can do it. Simply better together!

What do we do? – The industry innovator has a 20-year legacy in providing transformative products, effective systems, trusted business opportunities, and a community that cares.

Can you tell us something about the products?

Isagenix focuses on providing solutions in the categories of Weight Loss, Performance, Vitality + Wellbeing, and Wealth Creation. Isagenix products are backed by research and science. Their no-compromise commitment to the quality of their products and ingredients has been standard. Product quality—and the customer’s health—is their highest priority. Products are Soy-free, Non-GMO and Gluten-Free

Some of their top products are:

IsaLean Shakes, Whole Blend Shakes, IsaLean Bar, Cleanse for Life, Ionix Supreme, e+ Energy Shot, BEA Sparkling Energy Drink, and the Amped Performance products.

Who is the target group of Isagenix?

JJ Birden: There is no specific target group. Whoever is looking to improve their health and or wealth, whether young or old, are joining the Isagenix community. From young to old, athletes and non-athletes all experience the benefits of consuming the Isagenix products and nutritional systems.

The business opportunity is available to those 18 years and above. Current markets Isagenix is available: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico South Korea, Spain, Sweden Switzerland, Taiwan The Netherlands, and United Kingdom.

How do Isagenix? What are the advantages? What makes you different from other providers?

JJ Birden: Isagenix is now 19 years old, and it has consistently grown over the years. The owner Jim and Kathy are exceptional owners, and Erik Coover, their son, is trained to one day take over the company. So they are a real legacy company.

With their products, these three points stood out to me.

  1. The research they do on their products.
  2. Quality of the products and testing to ensure quality
  3. Use of the products as a system. Systems eliminate decision fatigue and make it is easier to follow and get the results you want.

Their binary compensation plan is not like any other compensation plan in network marketing.

There are no “gotcha’s” as we say in the profession.

Where companies often change their compensation plan, Isagenix has never changed the base of their plan. It’s a one third, two-thirds non-flushing binary. There are no rank base pay caps, dynamic compression, break-out ways, terminal levels you’re not paid on, or rank hostage. You can earn a commission all the way down in your organization as long as you stay active.

There are five ways we are compensated:

  1. Retail profits
  2. Product Introductory Bonuses
  3. Team bonus
  4. Executive Matching team bonus
  5. Promotions/Incentives

What adjustments to your business have you made this year?

The only adjustments I have made is eliminated live events and the ability to meet with people in person. I replaced it with more Zoom meetings. I am doing anywhere from 4 to 8 a day. The technology makes it easier for one to continue to build an International business.

Where do you see the opportunity in the crisis?

I don’t see Isagenix in crisis because they are a proactive and not reactive company. They continue to be trendsetters who set the bar in our industry. Recently, they launched Isagenix 2.0. This represents their focus on the new initiatives they are implementing over the next year and plan to deliver on these three core initiatives:

  1. Product innovation
  2. Upgrading our marketing, branding and messaging
  3. Upgrading our user experience through innovative technology.

Where does the road go? Where do you see yourself in five years?

JJ Birden: I see Isagenix continuing to grow and eventually being one of the biggest health and wellness companies in the world. And I plan to be right along with them with my team, Team X 88. I aim to continue to use this Isagenix opportunity to help ones achieve the goals that are important to them. Not sure I will still be a professional speaker, but I will always be part of the Isagenix family. I am currently expanding my business in the new European markets that recently opened i.e., Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Poland, Austria, Portugal, France, and Switzerland.

At the end: Which 3 tips would you give to future founders?

Here is a simple recipe for success. See where you can apply it in your life. Keep it Simple, Stick to the Basics, and Be Consistent!

  1. Basics – the basics are the basics, and they never change, so master them! Mastery is all about practice. You have to practice long enough until you get good.
  2. Simple – if you are using a system for success, don’t complicate it. K.I.S.S. principle always applies. For example, in the NFL, my most successful route was the Hitch route. Run 6 yards and turn around. I know real complicated, but it kept moving us down the field. Simple actions produce positive results.
  3. Consistent – this is the difference maker and separates the professionals from the amateurs. You’ve got to stay in consistent action during the good days and bad days. Small daily improvements will take you from small wins to big wins.
