MOLECULE products designed to maximize recovery focused sleep
Please introduce yourself and the Startup MOLECULE to our readers!
Channing Chor, Co-Founder and COO of MOLECULE. MOLECULE is a sleep-focused company with products designed to maximize recovery-focused sleep with our proprietary system that offers enhanced airflow and heat dissipation. Our research and development team, working in conjunction with our engineers and Medical Advisory board, select materials, invent production processes, and develop designs to create sleep products that efficiently transfer heat away from the body – an important factor to getting the most restorative sleep possible. We also emphasize the importance of sleep hygiene and have incorporated various features into our products to ensure a clean and restorative sleep environment. Our overall mission is to help make the connection between quality sleep and an active, high-performance lifestyle. Our athlete ambassadors and investors include elite performers such as Michael Phelps, Alex Morgan, and Russell Wilson.
Why did you decide to start a business?
Our co-founder Albert is a serial entrepreneur, but this was my first founder experience. We met through some common connections and kept in touch. He approached me one day and asked me what I knew about mattresses and sports. I knew a lot about sports – so that was at least half of the equation! After vetting the idea for a few months, and being inspired by Albert’s past entrepreneurial experience, we decided to give it a shot.
What is the vision behind MOLECULE?
MOLECULE’s overall mission is to provide people with cool, optimal sleep so they can achieve a high performance life. Part of this includes helping people make the connection between quality sleep and an active lifestyle through our work with our athlete partners and sleep experts.
What have been the biggest challenges so far and how did you finance yourself?
The mattress industry is definitely a crowded marketplace, so that has always been a significant challenge – but we entered it with a unique point of view and product value proposition that has resonated well with our customers. We’re also an extremely lean team, so it’s always challenging trying to balance priorities when literally everything is a priority at this stage of our company. We’ve partnered with a leading private equity fund that has funded us.
Who is the target group of Molecule?
Anyone who strives to live an active, high-performance lifestyle – so literally everyone! Whether you’re a pro-athlete, weekend warrior, entrepreneur, or stay-at-home parent, everyone can benefit from better recovery-focused sleep.
How does AirTECâ„¢ core technology work? What are the advantages? What makes it different from other mattresses and mattress toppers?
AirTEC™ is MOLECULE’s latest proprietary innovation in sleep material technology. We’ve created a foam that provides the responsiveness and buoyant feel of latex, but with unprecedented airflow and a high level of durability. Using advanced manufacturing methods, we removed the membranes that usually exist between cells inside of foam, while still maintaining the material’s integrity. The result is unmatched airflow, which allows for better temperature regulation and better sleep and a foam that helps relieve pressure from the heavier parts of the body like the head, shoulders and hips.
Where does the road go? Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope that the MOLECULE brand will become synonymous with our mission of better sleep for an active lifestyle. And our products will be available to more people in the US and around the world.
At the end: Which 3 tips would you give to future founders?
Be flexible and be ready to pivot anytime.
Surround yourself with the right team.
The harder you work, the luckier you’ll get.
